Equipping the Saints for the Work of Ministry and Evangelism

Our Foundation: The Word of God

At Bethel Evangelical Church of Michigan, we stand firmly on the foundation that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, ESV). We are committed to being not just hearers of the Word, but doers also (James 1:22), as we equip every believer for the work of ministry and the building up of the body of Christ.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105, ESV)

Equipping the Saints: Our Biblical Mandate

God has given us a clear mandate through the apostle Paul: “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12, ESV). This is not just a suggestion—it’s our divine calling. Every believer is called to be a minister of the gospel, and our Bible study programs are designed to prepare you for this sacred work.

We believe that every member of our church family has been gifted by the Holy Spirit for service. As Peter reminds us, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10, ESV). Our Bible studies are not just about gaining knowledge—they’re about discovering your spiritual gifts and learning how to use them for God’s glory.

Small Group Discipleship: Iron Sharpening Iron

Our small group Bible studies are more than just educational sessions—they’re incubators for spiritual growth and evangelistic training. In these intimate settings, we live out the principle that “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17, ESV). Here, believers learn to:

Share their faith with confidence and love

Serve others with their spiritual gifts

Pray effectively for the lost and hurting

 Study Scripture for personal transformation

 Build authentic relationships for evangelism

Develop a heart for the lost and broken

Expository Preaching: Unveiling God’s Truth

Our Sunday preaching follows the model of Ezra, who “read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading” (Nehemiah 8:8, ESV). We believe in expository preaching that takes the text seriously, explains it clearly, and applies it practically to our daily lives and evangelistic efforts.

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:2, ESV)

Evangelism Training: Preparing for the Harvest

Jesus commanded us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20, ESV). This Great Commission is not optional—it’s the heartbeat of our Bible study ministry.

We equip believers to be effective witnesses by teaching them to:

Share the Gospel Clearly

Learning to communicate the message of salvation in a way that’s both biblical and culturally relevant, following Paul’s example of becoming “all things to all people” (1 Corinthians 9:22, ESV).

Answer Questions with Grace

Being prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks for the hope that is in us, with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15, ESV).

Live as Salt and Light

Understanding that our transformed lives are the most powerful testimony to the gospel’s truth (Matthew 5:13-16, ESV).

Pray for the Lost

Following Jesus’ example of praying for those who don’t yet know Him, and interceding for opportunities to share the gospel.

Biblical Literacy: The Foundation of Effective Ministry

We believe that effective evangelism and ministry begin with a deep understanding of God’s Word. As the psalmist declared, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11, ESV). Our Bible studies cover:

Systematic Theology

Understanding the major doctrines of the Christian faith and how to explain them to others.

Biblical History & Context

Learning the historical and cultural background that brings Scripture to life.

Apologetics

Developing reasoned defenses of the faith and answers to common objections.

Cross-Cultural Evangelism

Understanding how to share the gospel effectively across cultural boundaries.

Fruitful Discipleship: Measuring Success by Kingdom Impact

Our goal is not just to fill heads with knowledge, but to transform hearts and equip hands for service. We measure success not by attendance numbers, but by the fruit of changed lives and the multiplication of disciples. As Jesus said, “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples” (John 15:8, ESV).

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23, ESV)
